MATERIAL SPECIFICATION GUIDE

Stainless Steel Frames & Finishes

An internal frame and a visible metal finish have different jobs. Define their material grade, dimensions, connections and appearance separately when specifying custom commercial furniture.

Separate Structure from Appearance

A furniture specification should distinguish the concealed supporting frame from any exposed metal parts or decorative cladding.

Concealed reinforcement

Internal metal members support the agreed furniture construction. Their layout must coordinate with panels, openings and assembly connections.

Visible metal components

Specify exposed bases, trims or cladding separately. Confirm the selected finish, visible edges and sample appearance.

Connection interfaces

Identify where the frame meets the substrate, equipment mounts and project installation points before fabrication.

Specification Inputs to Confirm

Confirm these items in the material schedule and approved furniture drawings before production.

Material grade
304 stainless steel is a reference option. Confirm the grade required for each part and the intended project environment.
Tube section
Reference tube sections include 20 × 20 mm and 25 × 25 mm. Confirm section size, wall thickness, member positions and connections in the approved drawings.
Exposed finish
Confirm which parts are visible, the selected finish, directional appearance and an approved sample where required.
Frame and panel interfaces
Coordinate frame dimensions, panel build-up, brackets and the space required for equipment, cables and maintenance access.
Assembly and delivery
Define module connections, access constraints and the packing and installation scope before dispatch.

304 stainless steel and the listed tube sizes are YHS reference configurations. They are not a universal specification, corrosion guarantee or load-capacity statement.

Confirm support requirements

Provide the project loading and fixing requirements for review before the internal frame layout is approved.

Approve visible details

Mark visible faces, edge profiles and joint locations, then confirm the required appearance against the agreed finish reference.

Coordinate site interfaces

Confirm fixing locations, receiving access and assembly responsibilities with the project team before approving fabrication.

Questions Before Approval

Is every metal part made from 304 stainless steel?

No universal grade is implied. The approved material schedule must identify the grade and finish for the relevant frame, trim or cladding.

Are mirror and brushed finishes interchangeable?

Treat each finish as a separate selection. Confirm the required appearance and sample rather than changing the finish without project approval.

Does the frame specification include on-site installation?

Manufacturing, shipping and on-site services must be defined in the agreed order scope. Confirm the required assembly and installation responsibilities before delivery.

Define the Metal Scope Before Quotation

Send the furniture layout, supporting-frame requirements, exposed finish references, equipment information and destination. Identify which metal parts are included in the requested scope.
